2Day FM’s new dump button prevents Andrew G’s Kyle comments making it to air

The newly installed dump button got its first work out on 2Day FM’s breakfast show this morning during an on-air conversation about suspended Kyle Sandilands.

Dump button Andrew GWhile it is unclear exactly what was said by stand-in presenter Andrew G, Mumbrella understands that the dump button was pressed by co-host Brian McFadden when the topic of Sandilands – who is due to return next week – came up.

Sandilands has been off the air for three weeks since suggesting that Magda Szubanski could lose weight at a concentration camp.

During a conversation shortly before 9am, they hosts were discussing an appearance by Australian Idol judge Marcia Hines on Nine’s Today show. Hines had been defending Sandilands. After playing the clip, in which Hines said Sandilands was very different to his image, Andrew G seemed to be agreeing, before he was abruptly cut off. The show then went straight to an ad break, before playing a song, and then cutting to the news, without an explanation for what had occurred.

Although it is unclear exactly what took place, Andrew G posted a photograph of the studio’s dump button via Twitter earlier today.

A spokesman for 2Day FM’s owner Austereo told Mumbrella that although she had not heard the tape, McFadden had “panicked” by pressing the button and what was said was uncontroversial. She said: “There was no need to push it. Brian got a bit carried away. He heard the name Kyle and pushed it.”
