ABC viewers to witness Safran’s crucifixion
The mystery of comedian John Safran’s crucifixion may shortly be solved. The ABC has released details of his new show, John Saffran’s Race Relations.
According to the ABC, the eight part comedy-documentary – which begins on Wednesday October 21 – will culminate in viewers wtaching Safran’s crucifixion.
The ABC describes the show as being “about cross-cultural, interracial and interfaith love”. It says: “Torn between his Jewish upbringing and his inclination to hit on Eurasians, Safran comes up with some of the craziest television ever. Safran’s insane globetrotting takes him to Israel, Palestine, Togo, Japan, Philippines, Thailand, UK, Netherlands and the United States. He turns black and goes undercover in Chicago, talks to his dead mother, becomes a ladyboy and an Elephant Man, all in an attempt to make sense of cross-cultural love.”
awesome. Looks like his best work yet.

This looks so lame! John Safran isn’t even that funny – it’s the people that he sets up who are. But to each their own. Just yet another example of the garbage on Australian TV. I suppose it’s one way to keep the DVD sales up.

Safran always seem so condescending towards faith and religion that he grates me the wrong way. I mean, it’s one thing to point out odd religious practices, but it’s another to smirk and poke fun of them for cheap laughs. I’d like to know if the crucifixion was simple forensic experimentation, why did John Safran lie to the organizers and wear that ludicrous Monty Python style wig? It was for the camera, plain and simple. It wasn’t even a real religious experience, as Safran appears to have two people holding him up to support his weight for only a few seconds. If he really wanted the Jesus experience, Safran would have had himself properly nailed to a wooden cross, with dull iron nails driven by heavy hammers into the bones of his wrists and ankles, and left to hang helplessly in the hot sun until he passed out (now that would actually be interesting!). I agree with C. Mass, the more lousy shows that are on Australian television, the more DvDs I intend to watch. OZ TV equals YAWN!

I’m really looking forward to seeing this show. Apparently there’s a segment where John invites his family and friends over for a birthday party, only to reveal to everyone that he is actually getting married, then proceeds with a realistic full on Jewish wedding. At the end of the ceremony, John then tells everyone that it wasn’t a real wedding, that it was all put on for his show. This should be good for a few laughs anyway. Lets hope John doesn’t disappoint us like the Chasers did earlier this year.

John Safran in drag – RAWR LOL! I picture him ending up at the Oyster Bar, like from Police Academy, but ending up being some big guys toy for the evening. Although the drunk footage appears over-acted, it should still be funny to watch Safran make a fool of himself. I’m glad to see low brow slapstick is making a come back.
