ABC’s The Killing Season wraps up with 979,000

Last night’s finale of the ABC’s political documentary about the turmoil of the Labor Party in the Rudd/Gillard years The Killing Season was watched by 979,000 metro viewers in the 8.30pm timeslot, up on last week’s audience of 968,000.

The show remained steady for its three part run after debuting with a metro audience of 986,000.

Meanwhile, Ten’s Masterchef pulled in 1.223m metro viewers, its highest figure this year after pulling in 1.231m viewers on launch, according to preliminary figures from OzTam.

It was the most-watched show of the evening and dominated the key advertising demographics (16-39, 18-49 and 25-54).

The success of Masterchef helped Ten secure second place with an audience share of 18.5 per cent, behind Nine’s share of 20 per cent. Seven settled for third place with a share of 16.7 per cent as the ABC managed a share of 15.2 per cent.

The reality cooking show easily out-rated Nine’s The Big Bang Theory, watched by 927,000, and Seven’s House Rules which pulled in 903,000 metro viewers.

In the 8.30pm timeslot, Nine’s Love Child was watched by 856,000, up on last week’s audience of 772,000, out-rating Ten’s NCIS which was watched by 635,000.

Both shows beat the first outing of Seven’s US drama series Houdini which was watched by 421,000.

In news, Nine News at 6pm was watched by 1.165m, holding onto the same audience from 6.30pm. Seven News pulled in 995,000 metro viewers from 6pm, dipping to 943,000 from 6.30pm.

In morning programming, Nine’s breakfast show Today managed to nudge out Seven’s Sunrise with an audience of 297,000 compared to Sunrise’s audience of 289,000.
