Masterchef dominates House Rules and Reno Rumble and hands Ten rare audience share win

MasterchefChannel Ten’s Masterchef dominated its reality rivals on its return last night and handed the channel a rare audience share win for the night, with Seven’s House Rules and Nine’s new show Reno Rumble both failing to crack the million mark despite being boosted by simulcasts on their multichannels.

The return of Ten’s cooking show was up 50 per cent on last year’s series debut getting 1.231m viewers from 7.30pm, compared to 874,000 last year when it was up against The Voice and House Rules on Seven and Nine.

Seven will be most disappointed after roadblocking House Rules across all its channels at 7.30pm, but could only muster 791,000 viewers, while Nine’s new renovation show Reno Rumble got 873,000 viewers despite also being simulcast on multichannel Gem.

This time last year Nine debuted its third series of The Voice to 2.155m viewers on a Sunday night, while House Rules managed 1.183m for its first ever outing last year, but lifted throughout the series as The Voice weakened.Love Child returned after Reno Rumble on Nine at 8.40pm managed 920,000 viewers making it the fifth most-watched show of the evening. The show debuted to 1.354m last year for its first season.

Masterchef’s dominance saw Ten not only claim the biggest primary channel share with 21 per cent of the audience, but also the combined network share with 27.4 per cent.

Nine came second with 20.3 per cent, whilst Seven was third with 18.2 per cent and ABC fourth with 13.2 per cent.

After its news show Seven’s Home and Away was its best performing show of the night with 883,000 at 7pm.

In the news battle Nine won the night with 1.087m for its 6pm bulletin, against Seven’s 1.079m, although Seven’s 6.30pm bulletin and Today Tonight offering held up better with 1.064m against Nine’s 968,000 for its 6.30pm bulletin.

On pay-TV prison drama Wentworth got 97,000 viewers, slightly down on last week’s 102,000, which also picked up 37,000 during the week to an audience of 137,000 on SoHo.
