AKQA San Francisco lands award-winning Gavin McLeod as executive creative director

AKQA has anounced Gavin McLeod will be joining the agency’s San Francisco office as executive creative director just a fortnight after he resigned from R/GA in Sydney.

His departure from the agency was one of a number of senior exits in recent months.

McLeod will work directly with Simon Jefferson, managing director of AKQA’s San Francisco office, with Jefferson describing McLeod’s approach as “passionate” and “entrepreneurial”.

“He’s collaborative and has built strong teams with an incredible work ethic and a proven track-record of creating award-winning work,” Jefferson said.

“Gavin joins us at a time when we are partnering with some of the world’s best companies to help define their vision and architect the future-state of the customer experience.”

During his time at R/GA, McLeod worked with clients including Google, Telstra and Toyota.

In a statement, McLeod said his new agency was “fearless in pushing the boundaries.”

“I look forward to helping the San Francisco team push these boundaries even further,” he said.

McLeod also spent 11 years at M&C Saatchi where we worked with big clients such as Optus.

Earlier this year, AKQA was appointed to Optus’ agency roster, but the agency has baulked at setting up in Australia to service the business.

It is not clear if McLeod is working on the Optus account for AKQA.
