Alan Kirkland to helm consumer watchdog, Choice

Product review website Choice has appointed Alan Kirkland to the role of CEO.
The announcement:

CHOICE today announced that Alan Kirkland will take over the reins as the new CEO bringing with him over 15 years experience in advocacy and the not-for-profit sector.

Alan joins CHOICE as the organisation builds on its strong position of consecutive years of growth and influence under the leadership of outgoing CEO Nick Stace, who has led the people’s watchdog to become one of the most trusted brands in Australia. Nick returns to the UK to take up the position of CEO of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Alan has held senior management roles with the Australian Law Reform Commission, Legal Aid NSW and the NSW Council of Social Service. In doing so he has worked closely with federal, state and territory governments, industry peak bodies as well as private and public stakeholder groups. His work has spanned policy development, change management and public engagement projects.

Chair of CHOICE Jenni Mack said Alan is an experienced CEO with strong leadership and advocacy skills and his experience will be invaluable in building on the organisation’s history as a strong campaigner for the rights of consumers.

“CHOICE exists to unlock the power of consumers and to influence the decisions being made in government and boardrooms around the country – we know Alan will ensure the consumer’s voice remains strong.”

In accepting the position Alan said that he looks forward to consulting and building relationships with CHOICE members, consumers, businesses and government.

“It is an honour to join an organisation that is trusted by consumers for its history of fierce, independent advocacy.

“The challenge is how we build upon that expertise to ensure that CHOICE is reaching out to consumers in a rapidly changing marketplace.

“Technology is shifting the way we shop and what we buy, and CHOICE needs to ensure that its unique advice is available to consumers however, whenever and wherever they choose to shop.

“I am committed to ensuring CHOICE continues to drive innovation, to further enrich the services provided to CHOICE members, and to ensure that all consumers get a better deal.”

Alan will begin in the role of CEO on Thursday 30th August.
