AMP lights up rooftop logo on Sydney skyscraper
Financial services group AMP has fitted a new animated logo to the rooftop of its building in Sydney’s Circular Quay.
The company claims to be the first brand on the Sydney Harbour foreshore to use animated LED technology on its rooftop sign, which features the AMP spark logo introduced in May last year.
The sign will be in animation mode until New Year’s Eve and again on celebration days like Australia Day and during the Vivid Sydney festival.
The new logo was created after AMP merged with AXA Asia Pacific’s Australian and New Zealand businesses in March 2011.
AMP’s director of brand Helen Livesey said: “We’ve had overwhelming support for the AMP Spark from customers, consumers, employees and our financial advice network and we’re excited about rolling it out to highly visible locations.”
“The AMP building in Circular Quay was Sydney’s first skyscraper – turning 50 this year – and it will now be the first to feature animation signage technology on Sydney Harbour,” she said.
AMP’s 50 Bridge St building will also feature an animated sign, with others to be installed in Melbourne and Canberra.
Really great, great use of electricity AMP. Way to go!
I say this because as you state on your own site “We will help safeguard the future of our business and of our communities by: using energy, water and paper resources as efficiently as possible; maximising recycling of waste; and reducing our carbon footprint and the other environmental impacts of our business.” By making a giant animated sign.
But you are a supporter of Earth Hour your proudly boast at http://tinyurl.com/a3fm6od
And a member of the Investor Group on Climate Change.
So AMP, I ask you, take down the sign. Otherwise you are bullshitters.

We appreciate your concerns.
We’re pleased that the use of highly energy efficient LED lights means the new animated signs use approx 65 per cent less power than the original signs.
We were also able to recycle as much of the original signs as possible.

Good burn Kelly.

Kelly – well done. I think it unrealistic that all our skyscrapers remain unbranded – if all agree to do so, fine. But there is no way that any brand will want to be ‘the odd one out’
Congratulations on introducing the most energy efficient lighting for branding, and for recycling. This is actually a really good news message, and should be applauded. One step at a time – an unbranded skyline is a good aspiration, but until then, let’s do the best we can!

Superb, your sneering self-righteous arrogance typifies the problem with social media and explains why any cogent point gets quickly drowned out by the cacophany of shrill demands from the online peanut gallery.

The AMP response is timely, concise, precise, and (dare I say it) superb. Well done AMP and Kelly. ‘Superb’ – off to the Hall of Mirrors for you.

I hope the Melbourne sign is animated also 🙂 I love animated and neon signs. I wish more organisations would move to animated signage and get rid of their old static signs.

It’s great to see the move from static to animated logos in instances like this. The result is not only a brand that stands out, but signage that is able to illustrate more of the brand personality and thinking behind a logo. Good work, AMP and Landor.
