Anna Bateson becomes interim CEO of Guardian Media Group as hunt for permanent chief executive continues
Anna Bateson has stepped up at Guardian Media Group to become interim chief executive, while the hunt for a permanent CEO continues.
David Pemsel left the post in October to head up the Premier League, however, over the weekend, he resigned from that position two months before even starting, following public allegations about his private life.
Bateson has served as chief customer officer for more than two years, and has previously held roles at Charlotte Tilbury Beauty, YouTube, and ITV.
“Since joining the Guardian in 2016 and taking responsibility for our brand and reader revenues in 2017, Anna has helped us achieve impressive revenue growth, while also working closely with editorial colleagues on marketing and brand activities,” a Guardian Media Group spokesperson said.
“As previously announced David Pemsel has resigned as chief executive of GMG. We would like to express our gratitude to David for his leadership during an extremely important period for the organisation.”
The Guardian said the nominations committee of the board is “pleased” with its recruitment progress for a permanent CEO. The media company hopes to announce its new leader early in the new year.
