Anzac Day fuels BH60 at the box office

Beneath Hill 60Beneath Hill 60 remains strong over the Anzac Day weekend, reaching $1.7m; Accidents Happen opens with $52,611.

The WW1 film BH60 earned $870,819 this weekend, for a total of $1.7m. Perhaps fueled by the Anzac legend, BH60 actually increased its earnings by 42 percent compared to its first week.
Its co-producer and writer David Roach said in a press statement that the reaction to the film has taken the filmmakers by surprise.
“These messages have come to us from Facebook, via emails and phone calls – people seem to have genuinely connected to this story and many want to make contact with us to share their own story.  It’s been amazing to see the range of people who have made contact – from school kids to 80 year-olds,” said Roach.

The other Australian film currently in release, Andrew Lancaster’s feature debut Accidents Happen, starring US star Geena Davis, debuted with $52,611 on 12 screens. Unlike its opening scene, it didn’t set the box office on fire, but the screen average was a good $4,384.25.
