Chapman and Sundance’s Cooper join SFF jury

Producer Jan Chapman will be the Official Competition Jury President for this year’s Sydney Film Festival.

Chapman will be joined by fellow jury member, Sundance Film Festival director John Cooper.

The official competition rewards ‘new directions in film’ and was established in the 2008 edition, with support from Events NSW. It consists of a $6o,000 cash prize.

“The Sydney Film Festival was where I first saw films which transported me and inspired me to want to tell stories, and the inclusion of an Official Competition is a development in standing for the Festival. With selection criteria of ‘audacious, cutting-edge and courageous filmmaking’, it must attract work that has emotional power that goes beyond the usual treatment of a subject. I can’t wait to see them,” said Chapman in a statement.

In the case of Cooper, it will be his first time ever in Australia.

“I have never been to Australia before and I am very excited […] I’m hunting for new talent and I rely on Australia year after year to make us look good!” he said.

The other jury members have not been announced, but the final group will comprise two Australian and three international film industry leaders.
