Australian cricket great Glenn McGrath to speak at the Mumbrella Sports Marketing Summit, plus Jaimie Fuller returns
Glenn McGrath, former fast-bowler for the Australian cricket team, will speak at the Mumbrella Sports Marketing Summit in Sydney on July 4.
McGrath will be in conversation with Havas Sports & Entertainment Australia general manager, Francis Coady, and will discuss building a brand and keeping it strong. The pair will delve into McGrath’s work as co-founder and president of the McGrath Foundation as well as how he and the team have managed to engage a nation and encourage them to get involved.
As one of the nation’s best-known and well-respected charities, the McGrath Foundation has continued to thrive well after its co-founder hung up his bat, and has supported more than 70,000 families since 2005.
Also confirmed to return is former chairman of Skins, Jaimie Fuller. After the compression wear brand went into administration at the beginning of the year, Fuller released a detailed note to the public explaining how and why it happened.
In it he wrote: “So the question you’re probably pondering is how did it get to this? It’s a fair question, and I can’t point to one thing and one thing alone. There have been many contributing factors, as well as mistakes I’ve made along the way. I’ve been open about some of those mistakes and I will not recount all of them, but they have nonetheless compounded one upon the other to get to this point.”
In this session, Fuller will reveal the lessons learned from his time spent leading Skins, as well as campaigning for various, often controversial, causes relating to sport.
Meanwhile, the progress of esports will be tackled by professional player Eileen Bell, who is also a senior manager at BT Financial.
Bell was the first professional female gamer in Australia, and has 15 years experience in gaming and esports and seven years experience within the financial industry.
In her session, she will update delegates on the current esports landscape, revealing the hot areas and significant opportunities that could pay off for brands looking to get involved in backing athletes, teams and leagues.
Oliver Shawyer, general manager of marketing and brand at the Port Adelaide Football Club will also present a session with Heath McDonald, professor of marketing and co-director of the Customer Experience and Insights Research Group at Swinburne University.
The pair will tackle the big question of whether sports brands should be managed differently because sports marketing is unique in the marketing landscape. They will look to not only answer the question, but provide working examples of what should be done as a result of the answer they come up with.
The Mumbrella Sports Marketing Summit takes place on July 4 at the Four Seasons in Sydney. Earlybird tickets are on sale now.

Is Glenn going to talk about killing animals on game reserves in Africa ? Or building a brand on your own name when the funds could be better channeled into supporting established BC charities rather than celebrating your own ego? Oh, i guess he is there to talk about his brand.

Hi Cynic,
What Glenn and Francis will be talking about is outlined here: https://mumbrella.com.au/sports?id=sessions-on-the-program-so-far#session-glenn-mcgrath-on-engaging-both-on-and-off-field
But I feel you may have been exercising your wit and sarcasm.
As always, Mumbrella encourages debate and individual opinion. If you are keen to have your questions answered by the man himself, I would encourage you to attend the day and put your hand up during the session.
There will be plenty more on the day to see as well.
