Bauer Media announced the departure of the respected Loucas late on Friday evening, citing “personal reasons”, saying she is moving back to Melbourne to be with her family.

While Bauer has seen a number of senior executives including publishers Marina Go and Sebastian Kadas, it is not thought Loucas’ departure is related to the restructure underway at the company.

Her departure comes just weeks after the magazine celebrated its 50th anniversary with Bauer describing its 276 page special as the “biggest and most commercially successful issue in the magazine’s storied history”.

She said in a statement: “This role has afforded me the most wonderful opportunities and experiences but the greatest privilege has been to lead this extraordinary team.

“I am extremely proud of the great strides we have made with this brand and it is with a heavy heart that I have made this decision, but I am excited about moving back to my hometown to be with family and explore new opportunities.”

Nick Chan, Bauer Media CEO added: “Anthea is a star performer who has done an outstanding job on Gourmet Traveller. We’re sad to see her go, but her personal priorities should always come first. We wish her all the very best for the future.”

She is set to leave at the end of January with a hunt for her replacement under way.

Cornelia Schulze, general manager, food at Bauer Media said: “Anthea has lived and breathed Gourmet Traveller for more than a decade and leaves the brand on a high.

“In this next chapter of her life she has decided she needs to be at home with family in Melbourne. While we respect her decision, we’ll be very sad to see her go. I want to thank her for all her hard work over the many years and wish her every success in the future.”
