Australian TV networks tear up schedules to cover London terror attacks

Broadcasters in Australia have ripped up their normal program schedules to cover this morning’s London attack.

In what authorities have labelled a probable terrorist attack, a van drove into pedestrians before members of the public were stabbed.

Channel Nine and Seven extended Weekend Today and Weekend Sunrise to move onto rolling news coverage of the incident in London as it unfolded while the shows were on air.

Nine dropped Sports Sunday and The Sunday Footy Show from its Sunday schedule before returning to its normal programming at 1pm eastern.

Seven extended Weekend Sunrise until midday and dropped the Morning Show and its scheduled replay of House Rules, to hand over to a rolling Seven News special.

Sky News Australia numoed its political commentary program Outsiders over to the Sky News Business channel to air Sky News UK’s coverage of the unfolding attack.

One of the first journalists whose tweets were reposted on websites globally was Fairfax Media’s Latika Bourke, who was near the scene as it unfolded.
