Australia’s cricket defeat hurts ratings for Nine

Sri Lanka’s defeat of Australia to force a decider in the one-day cricket last night did not help Nine’s ratings in another night dominated by Seven – which claimed about 30% share of TV viewing.

The second session of the second cricket final pulled in 728,000, and was 10th most popular TV period of the night. The first session – which started at 6.30pm – drew an audience of 574,000 for Nine, preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTam suggest.

Nine claimed 17.8% share, with Ten not far behind with 16.4%.

Though 100,000 viewers down on last Tuesday’s ratings, My Kitchen Rules won the night for Seven with 1.828m. Packed to the Rafters, which followed MKR in the 8.30pm slot, pulled in 1.548m.

Seven broadcast the top four most-watched last night.

Nine News was Nine’s top performer and only show to draw an audience of more than one million.

Ten’s top show was NCIS, which rated with 890,000, followed by The Biggest Loser, which was up by around 15% of its season average and came third in the 18-49 and 16-39 demographics behind Rafters and MKR.

Ten’s The Project rated with 456,000 in its 6pm slot, down on last week’s 512,000.

Seven also was well on top of the battle of breakfast. Sunrise pulled in 423,000 compared to the 364,000 who watched Today on Nine.

Breakfast on Ten pulled in 45,000, which the broadcaster says has increased its morning audience share by north of 30% so far this year compared to last.
