Australia’s Olympians left out of Coca Cola’s snowballing global conflict

It is – as the interminable promotions from Nine and Foxtel keep telling us – nearly the Winter Olympics.

And sponsor Coca Cola has released its snowball fight -themed ad, made by Wieden + Kennedy Portland.

But you’d almost think that Australia’s winter Olympians aren’t being taken seriously. Although the ad has an eye for the global audience, Dr Mumbo fails to spot any Aussies.

Which is odd, because Dr Mumbo had been led to believe by Nine and Foxtel that we were going to win the Winter Olympics.

Going against national stereotypes, the fight in the Olympic village is triggered by an over-aggressive Canadian (and that’s a phrase Dr Mumbo never expected to type).

Soon the sniggering Swedes are dragged in, as is a snooty French athlete reading Le Monde (from January two years ago, oddly enough).

Before you know it the Russians and the Americans are being dragged into the escalating global conflict, while the Japanese team appears to cower in fear. Even the Jamaican team gets to make a brief appearance.

Dr Mumbo can only hope there is a local cut of the ad featuring triumphant Aussies.
