The unlucky-in-love second winner of reality dating show The Bachelor is to return in spin-off The Bachelorette, Ten has announced.

Sam Frost won last year’s second series of The Bachelor when she was selected by Blake Garvey as her ideal mate. And the show generated bigger headlines when he ended the relationship within days of the finale.

Last month Ten announced a third series of The Bachelor, featuring Tasmanian fitness instructor Sam Wood, which has already gone into production.

Today’s announcement means that 2015 will also see the first season of The Bachelorette go to air. The network has not said whether The Bachelor or The Bachelorette will air first.

Last year’s season finale rated nearly 1.4m metro viewers, one of Ten’s best performing shows of the 2014.

Ten’s chief programming officer Beverley McGarvey, said in today’s announcement: “Australia was captivated by Sam in last year’s season of The Bachelor Australia and we are delighted to welcome her back for our very first The Bachelorette.

“It will be fascinating to watch as the tables are turned and the most eligible bachelors in Australia compete to win Sam’s heart. We cannot wait to bring Australians all the love, drama, fun and romance of The Bachelorette.”

Frost said in the same announcement: “I’m really excited about this next stage of my life and believe the right man for me is just around the corner.”

The series will be hosted by Osher Günsberg and produced by Shine.
