Ben Wise leaves Cricket Australia to become AFL’s content director

Cricket Australia’s acting head of digital Ben Wise has switched sporting codes, joining the AFL to become content director.

Wise was promoted at Cricket Australia in April when its head of digital Finn Bradshaw left the organisation after five years to become head of digital strategy at Tennis Australia.

Wise will now be content director at the AFL

Before his promotion to acting head of digital, Wise was senior digital content manager at Cricket Australia. He has also worked as a digital executive producer at Southern Cross Austereo and an editor across sites including AFL.com.au and Cricket.com.au.

Cricket Australia’s executive general manager of communications and stakeholder engagement, Karina Keisler – who herself joined the organisation a year ago from the NBN – thanked Wise for his contributions.

“Ben has made a significant contribution to Cricket Australia and our digital platforms, and we wish him well on his next adventure,” she said.

To fill the void left by Wise at Cricket Australia, current integration and gaming manager, Patrick Horan, will step up to become acting head of digital.

“We’re very fortunate to have somebody as credentialed as Patrick step into the role to lead CA digital until a permanent replacement is identified,” Keisler added.

Horan has been a digital news editor at Fox Sports, as well as digital head of sport at News Corp.

The AFL has been approached for comment about Wise’s appointment.
