Big Adventure hits new low as T20 cricket helps Nine dominate night

Last night saw strong TV audiences for the close match between Australia and South Africa in the Twenty/20 cricket which drew 1.126m viewers over its three-hour duration from 7.30pm, and severely dented the audience of rival Seven’s The Big Adventure.

The new Seven reality program, which has struggled to build significant audiences, last night hit a new season low of just 444,000 viewers in the 8.30pm slot, down from its previous low of 597,000 last week.

The result in the 8.30pm timeslot was in stark contrast to the 1.031m that Sunday Night drew at 6.30pm and 932,000 viewers that the Season 3 return of Surveillance Oz, a show which goes into CCTV control rooms around the country, drew, according to Oztam overnight metro data.

Nine pulled 636,000 in the 6.30pm slot for its factual documentary The Embassy, which is filmed inside the Australian Bangkok embassy, with the channel getting 26.4 per cent audience share on its main channel, well about Seven on 17.8 per cent.

Ten’s highest audience was for Modern Family with repeats pulling 558,000 in the 7.30 slot and 565,000 at 8pm.

A new episode of Scorpion drew an audience of 542,000 viewers while new franchise NCIS New Orleans had an audience of 512,000 viewers.

Over on the ABC the season finale of Doctor Who drew an audience of 620,000 at 7.30pm, while in the 8.30pm slot it had 449,000 viewers for Fleming, a drama series on the life of the James Bond author.

Yesterday afternoon also saw 441,000 viewers tune in in Sydney and Brisbane to watch Australia take on Samoa in the Four Nations Rugby competition ahead of the final this weekend. Last night’s cricket was also well up on Friday’s contest between the two teams in Adelaide saw 858,000 viewers tune in, beaten by Seven’s Better Homes and Gardens.

With Nine dominating Seven in audience share the ABC pulled 12 per cent on its main channel and Ten had 10.9 per cent.
