Why am I the only person who thinks this guy is vastly overrated? It’s the same character, every time. And it’s not funny.

Gran wasn’t funny? C’mon Timbo, loosen the tie mate.

I must say I agree Tim. I laughed more at the Budget.

Had its moments. But really – same shtick just different wig.

Chris Lilley is a shining beacon in Australian TV & should be celebrated as such. Genuine aussie talent, and at last we have something in the TV schedule that isn’t reality focused or crappy buy-ins from the US.
Go ABC – Angry Boys & Hungry Beast are the best double headers in the TV week.

For those who were already doubting Lilley, then this first episode will have lost them.
For the rest of us who are fans of previous work i think we’re smart enough to see that episode 1 and probably 2 is there to set up and introduce the characters. There are 12 episodes in total (more than We can be heroes and Summer heights) so I’m confident we’ll see development of each of these over the coming weeks which once again will cement Lilley as one of the shining lights of Australian comedy.

Agreed Alex. Lilley’s work always takes a few episodes to get going and it is always worth the wait.

I FOUND THE SHOW RACIST AND OFFENSIVE. I SPENT MOST OF IT SHAKING MY WALKING STICK AT THE TV AND YELLING AT THE SILLY BLOKE TO SHUT UP. I AM GOING TO WRITE A STERNLY WORDED LETTER TO THE ABC NETWORK TO EXPRESS MY DISSATISFACTION. AND IF THAT FAILS I’M REPORTING THEM STRAIGHT TO TODAY TONIGHT FOR FURTHER ACTION.

If you don’t like it, don’t watch it! Simple as that. It’s just like any other show – turn the TV to another station.

I agree with Alex. i found the first episode only mildy funny, but certainly intriguing, and I’m sure it will lead to a strong series.

I was out last night and didn’t see it – what kiddie disability did he make fun of this time round?

I came VERY close to abandoning the ABC last night and missing two of my favourites – Hungry Beast and At The Movies. I’d encourage ABC to juggle the program and put Angry Boys last, where it probably belongs. Then those of us who need to get to bed can do so at a reasonable hour and not be bored in that middle time slot.

Will be interesting to see how ABs rates next week. I think they will have lost some viewers as a result of a weak opening ep. ‘Gran’ character was ho-hum and the others we’ve seen before.

it was funny, but the real comedy started afterwards when hungry beast began.

Maybe the characters are the same since the 2 main ones last night WERE THE SAME boys from we can be heroes. I like it. It made me laugh, maybe not as much as Summer Height or We Can be Heroes but certainyl more than most of the other stuff you see on TV these days

thought Barry’s comment was piss funny.

Hungry beast feels like it is made by 15 year old media students. It’s so damn edgy, now and hip. That chick with the nose ring and messy hair has that cliched lesbian look you always see on the news for refugee rallies. God I feel old. I want to slap the lot of them.
Loved Angry Boys though.

Angry Boys seems to be an improvement on the terrible Summer Heights High, which I would consider probably the most overrated Australian TV program of recent times. It is still pretty much the exact same thing, and not what I would consider “genius” as some here are suggesting. All of Lilley’s shows have involved repeating the same jokes over and over again, and none of those jokes were particularly good in the first place.
I was much more excited that Sons of Anarchy finally hit Aussie FTA last night.
