Bob Mackintosh set to depart R/GA as regional ECD vice president

R/GA’s regional VP ECD, Bob Mackintosh, is set to depart the agency at the end of the month to “take time out from the industry”.

Mackintosh joined R/GA in as a freelance ECD in Shanghai in February 2017. Three months later he was promoted to VP ECD for APAC.

Mackintosh will be “traveling round the globe with his family for the rest of the year”

R/GA Global CEO, Sean Lyons, said in a statement: “Bob has built and led our creative leadership in the region and done so with wit and grace.

“We’re sad to see Bob go and more than a little bit envious of his plans, but he’s leaving the creative teams and work in very capable hands.”

Bob Greenberg, founder of R/GA, added: “Fearlessness and curiosity are two of the qualities that we most cherish in our people, and stepping away from a job you love into the great unknown takes both. It’s a rare opportunity that Bob has seized, and he leaves with everyone’s best wishes and an inkling that, as is often the case at R/GA, our paths may converge again in the future.”

In a statement to Mumbrella, Mackintosh said: “When I first shared my news with Bob, he kept referring to it as a sabbatical. Not only do I take this as a massive compliment, I might need to remind him of it when I return this time next year, cash strapped and desperate for work. But for now, the world is calling, and a year with my family doing the things we love, awaits.”

A search is underway for Mackintosh’s replacement.

Prior to joining R/GA, Mackintosh was Host Sydney’s executive creative director for more than three years. His departure from the agency brought his 11-year relationship with the agency to an end.

One year later Host Sydney merged with Havas to become Host/Havas.

In Aril last year R/GA Sydney won the creative account for Wine Australia while in March last year they created its first work for the NRL.
