Boomtown appoints Andrew ‘Billy’ Baxter as new chairman
Boomtown has appointed Andrew ‘Billy’ Baxter as its new chairman, following the departure of founding chair Brain Gallagher in June.
Baxter is one of the country’s top marketing advisors, having served as CEO for Publicis and Ogilvy, steering iconic campaigns such as ‘Share a Coke’ and AMMI’s Rhonda commercials.
He currently holds several board roles, including as chair of Australian Pork, deputy chair at Foresters Financial, deputy chair at Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and non-executive director at OzHarvest.
“Regional Australia is home to 36% of our population, people who earn and spend close to the same as those in our major cities, yet media investment lags by around half in those markets,” said Baxter, in a release announcing his appointment.
“Through my other roles, I have seen first-hand in the last 12 months how many of these regional cities are thriving – whether that be Newcastle, Geelong, Toowoomba, Canberra, Bendigo, Wollongong, the Gold Coast or Albury Wodonga.
“It’s exciting to join the Boomtown team and help them on their journey to levelling out that media spend by highlighting the power of regional advertising.”
Boomtown is an industry collective that spruiks the power of advertising in regional media.
It was founded in April 2019, and Brian Gallagher served as its inaugural chairman, before leaving in June to lead a newly formed audio sales team at Nine Radio.
