Brand Meets Blog event exposes new brands to bloggers
Brand Meets Blog, the matchmaking service for companies and bloggers that launched in May, has held an event in Melbourne to connect small business start-ups with bloggers.
The event, held at the Melbourne Museum, saw products and services from new companies Zen Imports, Deals For Mum and Madii&Dylan exposed to 12 bloggers including Caz Filmer, author of The Truth About Mummy, Kirrily Whatman, who writes Sunny side Up, and Reservoir Dad blogger Clint Greagen.
“Blogger events are still new in the Australian context,” said Brand Meets Blog founder Louisa Claire. “But the face time with bloggers is invaluable in building relationships that can offer maximum benefit for brands.”
“Brands typically reach out to bloggers via word-of-mouth and social media, with email and online communities also popular,” she added, pointing to a US report that suggests that in-person relationships are better at creating blog campaign opportunities.
Brand Meets Blog is planning to hold similar events in other cities around Australia.
2006 called, it wants its idea back.
As for the concept that “blogger events are new in the Australian context” I’ve never heard more rubbish in my life, and I should know, I’ve been to more than a few over the years….in Australia.

Well for some reason, brands want little to do with my blog. No idea why, I’m quite complementary to innovative brands, like in this piece.

Agree with Duncan and RB: it’s already been done before – Kidsbusiness.com.au already did something similar with the bloggers brunch… copycat version?

I think the article speaks clearly for itself – it is saying this is new in the “Australian context”, and never claims to be the first nor a unique idea. Thanks for a great morning, quite enjoyed the exposure to some impressive brands I had never heard of before.

Well I think it’s positve publicity for blogging and bloggers. No negativity over here from this blogger. Well done Louisa. Relatively speaking yes, still pretty new as you said in the Australian context.

Well Finzensen, your ‘tude would make it difficult, but not your content. There could certainly be value in a piece from a blogger even if, particularly if they are generally scathing. It wouldn’t work for you, because from what I see, you wouldn’t choose a subject you couldn’t be negative about, (which is fine) but a real endorsement from someone who only gave praise to something really good would be worth more than a uniformly gushing blog.Much more.

Most bloggers don’t create content for the benefit of brands. There’s more to life than crass commerce…

Jemma, you can’t have it both ways. If this event is a copycat then so is the event you are referring to. There are lots of companies wanting to engage bloggers (whether that’s universally popular or not) and I for one think it’s great that some of these events are being run by a blogger herself who really knows what she’s doing. Not everything has to be a competition.
