The Brand Pool appoints John McLean as head of digital
Independent creative agency The Brand Pool has appointed digital marketing specialist John McLean as head of digital.
McLean joins the agency from digital agency Webling Interactive, where he was general manager for three years.
In his time with Webling, McLean worked on clients including American Express, Macquarie Bank, Banana Boat and Schweppes.
Prior to that, McLean was head of production at Holler Sydney, and has also worked at agencies including Leo Burnett, Clemenger BBDO and Droga5.
Commenting on McLean’s appointment, Lynn Poole, managing director of the Newcastle-based agency, said: “I’m delighted to welcome John to our team. At a time where big brands are looking for a more personal approach to telling their stories, smaller creative agencies are becoming the driving force behind big scale clients.
“Being small is starting to mean big if you can offer clients direct access to highly talented, globally experienced people such as John.”
McLean said his new agency had the skills and capabilities of a big agency with the “nimbleness” and “personalised service” of a boutique.
“I’m very excited about the opportunity to develop an innovative business model and service offering with The Brand Pool team,” McLean said.
“Modern technologies mean that agencies are no longer ‘geo-locked’ or limited by size.
“I’m not only blown away by the quality of life that Newcastle has to offer, but with the possibility of partnering with Lynn and the team to build our credentials. Her deep knowledge and experience coupled with our innovative approach will no doubt result in a compelling suite of services for our clients.”
