Brisbane radio ratings: Hit Network’s losses see Nova gain back breakfast and overall share

A difficult start to the year for SCA’s Hit Network has played kindly into the hands of Nova, with the network welcoming wins across the board.

The first GfK metro radio ratings survey of 2023 saw Hit Network lose its overall lead, falling 1.3 points for an 11.7% share. The loss saw Nova start the year at the top of the podium once again, as it held onto a 12.2% share, despite a 0.5 point drop.

ARN’s KIIS and SCA’s Triple M also switched places, with KIIS elevated into third place thanks to a 1 point lift to 10.8%. Conversely, Triple M fell into fourth place, losing 0.7 points down for 9.8% overall share.

Outside of the top four, the survey period from January 15 to February 25 saw the Brisbane market remain relatively stable. Other notable moves included a 1 point lift from Nine’s 4BH for 8.4%, with Triple J also up 0.7 points for 6.7% share.

Looking at breakfast, and again the Hit Network’s 1.2 point fall has left the door open for Nova, who finished in first place in the time slot for the first time since survey six last year. Nova’s Ash Luttsy and Susie O’Neill took 13.2% share, just 1 point down from survey eight, pipping Hit Network’s Stav, Abby and Matt, on 12.5% share, down 1.2 points since the last book.

The time slot has change significantly since this time last year, when ABC Brisbane held a strong lead 13.2% – 2.5 points ahead of its nearest competitor. Now on 8.9% after a series of losses during 2022, the public broadcaster sits behind KIIS’ breakfast lineup Robin, Terry & Kip on 10.7%, and Triple M Breakfast with Marto, Margaux and Dan, which saw 9.7% share.

4BH also saw a 1 point lift for 8% share in breakfast.

Over to drive, and Nova’s Kate, Tim and Joel remained dominant, with a near five-point lead on its nearest competitor, despite losing 1.2 points since survey eight. The loss, while small, comes after a period of flux for the show, with Rickie-Lee Coulter stepping in for Kate since October, after she took an extended break from radio after eight years in Nova’s drive lineup. Coulter has since been officially name as Ritchie’s replacement, with the new drive lineup titled ‘Rickie-Lee, Tim and Joel’, while Ritchie has signed onto Nova’s national breakfast lineup alongside Fitzy and Wippa.

Hit Network’s Carrie and Tommy remain in second place, though dropped 1 point down to 11.5% share for the timeslot, just ahead of KISS’ Will and Woody, which picked up 1.6 points to take a total 11.3% share. Triple M’s The Rush Hour With Leisel Jones, Liam & Dobbo was next, with 10.6% share, down 4 points on the last book.

ABC Brisbane also managed a 2.5-point increase, clawing its way back onto 6% share, nearing its starting position for 2022 of 9.2%.
