Broadsheet Media promotes Sian Whitaker to general manager after two years as commercial director

Broadsheet Media has promoted its commercial director, Sian Whitaker, to general manager.

The newly created role will see Whitaker oversee the day-to-day operations of the entire business, including editorial, commercial and audience-growth, and drive Broadsheet’s ambitions holistically across the wider team.

Whitaker first joined the publisher in November 2018 as commercial director and has since led significant commercial growth. She oversaw the national sales and partnership team and Broadsheet Studio during her time in the role.

Before joining Broadsheet, Whitaker had a lengthy tenure at Carat Melbourne, where she held multiple roles including head of digital and head of operational performance. Prior to this, she worked in sales for digital publisher Ninemsn.

Nick Shelton, Broadsheet’s founder and publisher, is thrilled to promote Whitaker and excited about the impact this change will have on the business.

“Sian has been a hugely successful commercial leader her first two years at Broadsheet, and I’m incredibly proud of what she’s achieved to date. With this new step, Sian will be in a position to further drive our ambitions with the coordination of the wider team.”

Whitaker mirrored these sentiments and praised her team for its work and achievements in a challenging year.

“I’m thrilled to be appointed general manager at Broadsheet. I’ve loved my time at Broadsheet growing our commercial arm, and I’m looking forward to this new chapter in my career. I’m excited to support and lead the other departments within Broadsheet to ensure we remain focused and aligned on our priorities as a business.

“I’m so proud of what our team has achieved this year despite the challenges we’ve all faced – they’re an incredibly passionate and smart group of people and I feel extremely lucky to be leading them. Broadsheet continues to be such an important part of people’s lives and I’m excited to see how we continue to evolve.”

Broadsheet has made several changes recently to its internal structure, including implementing a coordinated national editorial team, the introduction of two new cross-departmental roles, and the appointment of a content director.
