Paul Colgan, the former editor of news.com.au and a member of the launch team behind The Punch, has emerged as editor of new Fairfax-backed business and lifestyle website Business Insider Australia.

“Colgo” vacated the hot seat at news.com.au last February, and has since been digital news director for News Limited’s Network News desk.

Business Insider – which launches this week – provides technology, money and markets news, features and “ideas to inspire executives”.

Colgan, who spent around a decade at News Limited, told Mumbrella: “Business Insider is not just narrowly focused on companies and markets. We look at innovation and new frontiers in leadership. We expect to be very competitive in the business news category in Australia.”

The new title is published by Fairfax subsidiary Allure Media, which also publishes technology and women’s lifestyle websites including Gizmodo, Kotaku, Lifehacker, ShopStyle and POPSUGAR.

It is be the Australian version of popular New York-based site The Business Insider, which last month took local company Business Insider Pty Ltd, publisher of the Central Coast Business Insider and the Hunter Business Insiderto court because they share the same name.

Colgan was part of the launch team of opinion website The Punch, which was closed by News Limited after four years of publishing a few weeks ago.
