CAANZ and Sweet Shop hold competition for Adfest workshop

The Communications Agency Association New Zealand (CAANZ) and The Sweet Shop are offering a New Zealand creative team under 30 years of age the chance to attend Adfest Young Lotus Workshop in Thailand in March.

The announcement:

CAANZ and The Sweet Shop partners in sponsoring the 2012 New Zealand entry for ADFEST Young Lotus Workshop.

Once again CAANZ and The Sweet Shop are offering a New Zealand creative team of two the chance to attend and compete at the ADFEST Young Lotus Workshop. Here young creative teams get to grow their experience in the presence of award-winning industry gurus from the Asia Pacific region.

To be eligible, both creatives must be under 30 and have been in advertising for a year. The team with the most work judged to be a ‘finalist’ at this year’s AXIS Awards will be offered this fantastic opportunity.

Historically, the ADFEST Young Lotus Workshop has been chaired by the likes of Craig Davis, Linda Locke, Chris Thomas, Neil Dawson, Akira Kagami and John Merrifield. This year Mr. Tay Guan Hin, Regional ECD, JWT Southeast Asia will chair the Young Lotus committee.

The workshop takes place from the 15-17th March in Pattaya, Thailand and is facilitated by a group of ‘trainers’ whose task is to coach and brief out an assignment with a 24 hour deadline.  Once completed, the committee judges the work and 3 finalists will present their works on stage before the winners are announced at the ADFEST Young Lotus Awards presentation on 18th March.

Last year, Zoe Hawkins and Kia Heinnen from Colenso BBDO represented New Zealand. Here’s their take on the experience, “Jumping on the plane, we didn’t know what to expect. But over the week, we learnt so much about the other teams on both a cultural and working level. The 24hour brief was a stressful; noodle/caffeine filled affair, but the different outcomes were great. The experience was brilliant and we’ve made many connections with upcoming creatives throughout Australasia.”

For the next Young Lotuses, they advise, “Use your time well, remember you’re in Thailand and good luck!”

The Sweet Shop Managing Director George Mackenzie comments, “This is the second year that The Sweet Shop has worked with CAANZ and ADFEST to ensure NZ is represented at the Young Lotus Workshop. We’re pleased to be able to continue our support of young Kiwi creative talent.”

This year’s winners will be announced Friday 2nd March.
