Carnegie’s Den finalists revealed
The finalist pitches for this week’s Carnegie’s Den can be revealed.
The project, which is in partnership with Mumbrella, sees investor Mark Carnegie seek new ideas in media and technology.
Carnegie’s investment capital firm MH Carnegie has recently launched a $120m innovation fund.
After a callout on Mumbrella, more than 120 ideas were put forward. The best eight have been shortlisted for a rapidfire presentation at the Carnegie’s Den event this Thursday.
Carnegie, former adman John Singleton, Network Ten chief digital officer Rebekah Horne and Mumbrella’s Tim Burrowes will be the judges of the presentations, which take place in front of a live audience on Thursday evening. Winners receive coaching and a follow-up meeting with Carnegie with a view to investment.
The finalists are:
- Alexander Stamp – Cloudherd
- Jennifer Roberts – Picture Postie
- Ben Levi – Renting Smart
- Chris Adams – Spondo
- Karen Campbell – Operation Orbit
- Aram Kokab – The Free G Network
- James Nathan – Food Orbit
- Rob Logan – Train Your Way
The event takes place at Carnegie’s home, The Church, in Darlinghurst, in front of around 120 guests. A small number of places in the audience are available to Mumbrella readers. Anyone interested in attending Carnegie’s Den, from 4pm on Thursday, should email Denise Jinks denise@focalattractions.com.au by the end of business today with their name, job title and company.
Carnegie explains the idea:
Tim, wasn’t the original call for the next big idea in media? Hence the link with mumbrella. The shortlist looks light on media ideas.

Hi Michael,
A fair question. It will be interesting to see how that unfolds once we get to the elevator pitches.
All the best,
Tim – Mumbrella
This sounds like a fantastic opportunity to support innovative media companies in Australia. It’s good to see Australia supporting Australian upstart businesses. Congratulations to all the finalists, especially Spondo, a company I have already invested in.

Great pitches from all the finalists. Even those who dressed like they “didn’t give a f***”!
And, of course, many thanks to whoever sponsored the mini fish and chips.
