Carrie Bickmore to return to The Project on 8 July

Long-term co-anchor of The Project on Ten, Carrie Bickmore, is set to return to the program on 8 July, after eight months of maternity leave.

Bickmore’s return is just ahead of the program’s 10-year celebration, which will go to air as a 90-minute special on Friday, 19 July.

Bickmore: ‘I can’t believe it’s been 10 years’

Bickmore has been with the Roving Enterprises production since its inception back in 2009.

Her last episode before her maternity leave was on Thursday 15 November. That episode had 265,000 metro viewers for the first half hour, according to the preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTAM at the time, and 394,000 with the addition of regional viewers.

The episode was leading into the final of Ali Oetjen’s season of The Bachelorette, with 444,000 metro viewers tuning in at 7pm. 647,000 viewers nationally watched the 7pm segment.

That night, The Bachelorette had 766,000 metro viewers (996,000 nationally), while the final decision had 926,000 metro viewers (1.217m).

Bickmore was full of praise for the program and its longevity.

“I can’t believe it’s been 10 years,” she said. “It feels like only yesterday I was sitting on the desk in a cold sweat waiting for the first show to begin. I have loved watching the show – and my hair – change and evolve over the decade. It’s been like a second home to me, and I feel so fortunate to work next to genuine friends.”

The Project’s executive producer Craig Campbell was similarly excited by the milestone.

“A decade is a lovely milestone to reach doing a show you care so much about,” he said. “July 19’s telecast will give us a wonderful opportunity to get everyone together and talk about those embarrassing moments we shared with the nation.”

Last night’s episode of The Project had 261,000 metro viewers at 6:30pm, and 409,000 on a national scale. The 7pm segment leading into Masterchef had 487,000 metro viewers, and 692,000 nationally.

Bickmore has already returned to her gig with Southern Cross Austereo, which sees her co-host the Carrie and Tommy Show across the Hit Network from 3pm to 4:30pm.
