Catch-up figures show fans watch Game of Thrones on-the-day as third outing dips

game-of-thrones-234x131The third outing of Game of Thrones on Foxtel’s Showcase channel has dropped again, although the HBO show was still comfortably the most watched show on pay-TV yesterday.

The 11am fast-tracked showing attracted 177,000 viewers, down from 205,000 last week, whilst the 7.30pm repeat screening dipped on last week’s 293,000 viewers to 259,000.

On-the-day viewing seems to be the preferred option for fans, however, with relatively muted time-shifted views during the week with the 7.30pm episode picking up an extra 27,000 viewers, and the early showing another 12,000.

Channel Ten’s US sitcom The Odd Couple continues to drop audience with 406,000 tuning in last night, down from 440,000 for the show starring former Friends star Matthew Perry in the 7.30pm timeslot.

Ten once again fell below 10 per cent audience share for its primary channel, sweeping up 9.6 per cent, behind ABC’s 16 per cent. Seven won the night with 23.8 per cent ahead of Nine’s 20.8 per cent.

In time shifting Russell Crowe’s movie The Water Diviner, based around the Gallipoli offensive, was the most time shifted show of the week picking up an extra 179,000 viewers through the week to end up with 1.047m viewers.

Ten’s Elementary also enjoyed a 50 per cent audience uplift with 122,000 more viewers, taking it to 359,000, while Nine’s Big Bang Theory had 148,000 extra viewers taking it to 1.029m.

Cooking dramas on Seven again won Monday night with My Kitchen Rules picking up 1.55m metro viewers, up from 1.49m last Monday night, while The Block Triple Threat also saw a rise with 1.11m tuning in to watch the house renovation saga, up from 981,000.

ABC, meanwhile, will be pleased at the consistency of Australian Story which grabbed 842,000, an increase of 33,000 from last week’s episode.

A Current Affair edged above 1m in what was a strong night for Nine for news and current affairs.

Its segments at 6pm and 6.30pm drew 1.18m and 1.12m viewers respectively, both ahead of Seven’s 1.09m and 1.04m, while ABC News captured 911,000.
