CBS Interactive and Allure Media launch Techlines

CBS Interactive and Allure Media have partnered to launch communication focused web event, Techlines.

The announcement:

Digital media industry heavyweights CBS Interactive (www.cbsinteractive.com.au) and Allure Media (www.alluremedia.com.au) have today announced the launch of an industry-first web event called Techlines around the topic “Email is Dead”, discussing the future of workplace communications on August 12. Techlines is the first collaboration between these two traditional online media competitors that will bring their two vast tech-focused audiences together, asking if email is dead but also if anything could ever take its place. The event will combine the power of social media, forum contributions and pre-event editorial discussion to fuel this modern communications debate.

“While many would consider this an unlikely industry partnership, Techlines is really about bringing the strongest and most engaged audiences from our site communities into a combined discussion that relates to audiences from the enthusiast, right up to the IT professional. We see Techlines as a great combined investment of CBSi and Allure’s efforts to deliver practical technology commentary that audiences connect with and respect,” says Brian Haverty, Editorial Director for CBS Interactive, the home of ZDNet Australia.

“Techlines is a great chance to utilise our combined strengths in creating engaging multimedia content that connects directly to the needs and concerns of our audience; and responding to their queries before, during and after the event via forums and social media. We see the event having a strong extended life beyond the timings of the webcast in videos and commentary onsite that both our community and editors will foster,” says Seamus Byrne, Technology Publisher at Allure Media, the home of Gizmodo and Lifehacker.

Techlines will be broadcast from the Sydney-based panel session on ZDNet (www.zdnet.com.au), Gizmodo (www.gizmodo.com.au) and Lifehacker (www.lifehacker.com.au) on August 12 from 12 noon and be hosted by ABC’s New Inventors host James O’Loghlin and involve IT industry heavyweights including Alistair Rennie, General Manager, IBM Lotus; Genevieve Bell, Director, Interaction & Experience Research, Intel; Adele Beachley, Managing Director, Research In Motion (Blackberry) Australia & New Zealand and Mark Pesce, Futurist.
