Child sex abuse and blowjob subjects of latest Wicked Camper slogans to be banned

wicked campersWicked Campers had seen two more of its slogans on its vans ruled against by the Ad Standards Board, taking its tally of banned slogans for 2015 to nine.

Two slogans,  “70% of Preists [sic] who’ve tried camels prefer young boys…” and “a blow job is a great last minute gift” fell foul of the ASB, while a complaint against a third slogan, “It makes my heart race when you sit on my face”, was dismissed.

A complaint against the first slogan argued it was “completely inappropriate” to joke about such matters.

“Child sexual abuse is no joke and a painted slogan like this could be extremely triggering for people who have been victims of abuse. This trivialises something very serious. I am the foster mother of a child who has been sexually abused so this is extremely real to us and is why I have decided to make a complaint,” the complaint read.

Complaints against the second slogan said it was “inappropriate for public use”.

“Adults will be asked by children as to its meaning before the adults are ready to explain. Children will be exposed to sexual concepts at an inappropriate age, and in an inappropriate context,” the complainant argued.

The third slogan featured the same complaints.

Wicked Campers does not respond to complaints.

In its rulings on the first and second slogans, it was the board’s view that the first slogan was “totally insensitive to the personal anguish of sexual abuse victims and such a message could impact upon the physical and/or mental health of those who have suffered such abuse” while the second slogan “did not treat the issue of sex, sexuality and nudity with sensitivity to the relevant broad audience which would include children”.

On the third slogan which saw complaints dismissed, it was the board’s view it did treat the issue of sex with sensitivity to the relevant audience, as while the ad could be easily viewed by children it was “unlikely to be understood by children”.

This year alone Wicked Campers has seen a further seven slogans ruled against by the ASB including: “Confucious say man with dick in peanut jar is fucking nuts”; “Gay guys settle disputes by going outside and exchanging blows”; “Blow in her face and she’ll follow you anywhere…“; “Women fake orgasms because they think men care!”; “I ate so much pussy in those days my beard looked like a glazed donut”; “Virginity is curable” alongside an image of a female Lego character lying on top of a male Lego character; and a cartoon of Shaggy and Scooby Doo smoking a bong.
