Churchward/Melhuish win Sydney Design pitch

Churchward/Melhuish have won the Sydney Design pitch to create branding and collateral for Sydney Design 2013.

The announcement:

Following a competitive pitch Churchward/Melhuish have been appointed by the Powerhouse Museum to create the branding and collateral for Sydney Design 2013.

Sydney Design is one of the few design festivals in the world produced and managed by a Museum. It will feature 75 inspiring exhibitions, workshops, talks, installations and tours in a city-wide program set to stimulate conversation and creativity.

The Churchward/Melhuish solution features an abstracted letter D which becomes the brand identity, and a modular container device for all communication.

The D is constructed from numerous interlinked triangles representing the multifaceted face of Design, and interconnectivity of all disciplines.
The D appears as if it unfolds and reveals – much like the event itself.

Julian Melhuish, Creative Director at Churchward/Melhuish said “We’re delighted to be appointed, Sydney Design is an important event in the Design calendar. The Powerhouse have in previous years commissioned some of the best Sydney studios for the event branding, it’s flattering for us to be included in their ranks”.

“The concept embraced both simplicity and complexity at the same time – allowing design to be considered in its many guises. The colours are joyful and set the tone that design can be seen as a positive force, inviting people to engage with a serious theme like ‘can design save the world’ and problem solving in an optimistic way,” said manager of Sydney Design, Lily Katakouzinos, Powerhouse Museum.
