Clemenger BBDO strengthens creative department with four promotions

Clemenger BBDO has made four promotions to bolster its creative team, just weeks after strengthening its strategy department.

Long-time Clemenger talent Ant Phillips has been promoted from GCD to ECD, creative team Riana McKenzie and Zoe Perrin have moved into more senior creative roles, and Ben Bryan has been boosted from junior to mid-weight art director.

Described as a move to optimise its AI capabilities by boosting those who use it regularly, the promotions are said to lead a new chapter for the agency’s legacy of ‘human creativity’.

“Clems has long been an incubator for amazing creative leaders,” said Adrián Flores, chief creative officer at the agency.

“These promotions recognise some truly phenomenal talents who will no doubt continue that legacy. Plus Ant.”

Phillips has spent 20 years with the agency, having joined in 2004 as art director, before progressing up the ranks. He has worked with some of Clemenger’s leading clients including Carlton Draught, Bonds, NAB, FightMND, and Great Northern Brewing Co.

“Clems obviously holds a special place in my heart, which is why I’ve been here for over 20 years. I’ve spent that time soaking up as much knowledge as I can from many of Australia’s greatest creative leaders who have passed through the building,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to playing a bigger role in shaping our creative future with the incredible talent at our disposal. And Adrián.”

McKenzie and Perrin have been with the agency for two years, working with clients including Myer and the Department of Transport and Planning. McKenzie recently gained the AWARD Emerging Creative of the Year honours for her efforts.

Finally, Bryan joined Clemenger in 2021 as a motion designer before moving into the creative department following a Top 10 finish at AWARD School in 2022. Since then, he has worked on campaigns include Yes23’s ‘Yes Makes It Possible’ and TAC’s ‘Wake Up To Yourself’.

It comes after the agency announced changes to its strategy team last month, with four new appointments – Jon (JT) Turton, Vanessa (Ness) Quincey, Maya Mausli and Brooke Thompson.

“Clems has a long history of reframing businesses, behaviours and culture. Now, we are reframing strategy for a new era in culture, marketing, experience and technology with these world class talents,” said Simon Wassef, chief strategy and experience officer.

“I’m stoked to round out the strategy department with these legends alongside behavioural scientist Helena Duniec, brand strategist Cecilia Hund and head of cultural design, Rhian Mason.”
