Clemenger BBDO Sydney’s joint ECD Mike Spirkovski has abruptly left the agency.

His departure – which sees Paul Nagy remain as sole ECD – comes weeks after the agency held a briefing for trade press in which they extolled the virtues of the dual role, arguing that the burden had been a demanding one for former ECD Richard Maddocks to carry on his own.

But today’s announcement quoted CEO Andy Pontin as saying:

“Over the last few months, as a management team we’ve had many conversations about the structure of our creative leadership. Whilst there have been a lot of positives in having joint-ECDs, we’ve increasingly come to realise that the best way forward for Clemenger BBDO Sydney is to have one ECD at the helm.

“I have had a very open conversation with Mike and Paul about this and in the best interests of the agency we’ve all agreed that Paul is best suited to take on the overall ECD position for the agency. As a result of this, Mike has decided to move on to a new challenge.”

The pair were appointed just over a year ago.

The agency has had a good year for new business including Hungry Jack’s, Virgin Australia and Wrigley.

Clemenger BBDO Sydney today announced that joint-ECD Mike Spirkovski has left the agency.

In the same announcement, James McGrath, Clemenger’s creative chairman, said: “Paul is a great talent, and he has proven that time and again over the last year. He has an incredible focus on the work and is hugely respected by his creative peers and his clients.”

In the Mumbrella Creative Agency Review, Clems Sydney was described as having “a reputation as a solid performer that produces some respectable work”. However, industry observers suggested to MCAR that the work was not yet of the same standard as Clemenger BBDO Melbourne.
