CommBank gets personal with Gen Y
The Commonwealth Bank will tonight attempt to connect with Gen Y at a forum in Sydney.
The Y Money Matters event at The Mint will see the bank engaging with Gen Y-ers who have registered through a web site. It will also stream the event live.
The site invites them: “Do you care? Are you doing anything differently? What does it mean for your financial aspirations? Put Gen Y on the record and get involved by joining us at an interactive forum to tell us your stories, hopes and fears. It will be full of information, tips and discussion to help share ideas and concerns about money and what matters.”
The White Agency has been involved in the project. The White Agency blog says: “As tempting as it is to retreat to a cave in the hills and hibernate until it all blows over, it’s always best to face a crisis head-on, which is why we’ve been working on an exciting new project with the Commonwealth Bank. The Bank is reaching out to Gen Ys to find how they feel about the current financial uncertainty and the effect it’s having on their lives.
The event has the Twitter hashtag #YMoneyMatters.
Of course this is about sales / customer acquisition (at the end of the day). It always is.
But – and you can call sceptical – with the latest news about bank fees being at such high levels, it’s hard to believe they really care.
I’m Gen Y and this sort of stunt doesn’t do much for me. I just want to see better products from the banks.
