CommBank staff feature in new ads
Real Commonwealth Bank staff are the focus of the next phase of the brand’s new campaign focusing on customer service.
Janet Hoon, who works in the bank’s Chatswood branch, features in the black and white 15 second ad reinforcing the bank’s commitment to keep its promises to call back on time. The ad breaks on Sunday. It contains the further twist that each time it airs, the date on the calender matches the broadcast date.
CommBank switched to the black andwhite style ads when it launched its new positioning last month with two ads shot by acclaimed French director Jean Pierre Jeunet
Mark Buckman, CommBank’s chief marketing officer, said: “We want people to know that we’re committed to excelling in customer service, therefore who better to star in our new ads than those who deliver on our Customer Service Promises each day?”
Four other Commonwealth Bank employees who will be featured in advertising throughout the year to communicate various products, services, community initiatives and sponsorships.

There’s something about the guy who does the voiceover – he sounds patronising, smarmy, wankerish.

Honestly, these guys had such a huge opportunity and they’ve blown it twice.
The first one I saw was a bad rip off of Amelie. And this one is, well, boring.

If they want to be very clever, they should change the date to the date that I’ll fast forward past it on my PVR…. then I’ll be very impressed 😉

So CBA, Westpac, BoQ now have the same advertising approach… now that’s ‘Determined to be Different’ !

Only in the direst cases
Should you show the clients’ faces
Or, maybe, faeces?

Always so much hostility. I think this comes across well and makes a meaningful service promise that is relevant. And to the person above who misquotes David Ogilvy – the ad does not represent the client in the original sense being the owner of the business. The person shown is close to be the product – the provider of the service.
Keep going with these ads they are engaging and human.

I agree with Gezza that the ad is engaging and displays a great element of humanity, however giving bank staff their 15 seconds of fame is nothing new.
St.George have dominated Kogorah Station with images of real staff for months, and Westpac’s latest business banking TVC was another great example.

I am glad they are using real people but who really believes that the Comm Bank are any different than the other bunch? She’ll be at the NAB next year.
Ban TV advertising for banks, no-one gives a shit. Spend the money on doing something useful like changing the climate or helping people off the streets.
