Corey Worthington and the MADC – best combo ever?
This may just be the best awards invite ever.
MADC has signed up party boy Corey Worthington to promote the August 28 Melbourne bash.
It includes a genius video which highlights his front-of-camera skills:
And a solid gold MySpace site including the message:
“Hey, Corey here. I don’t know much about advertising but I do know about organising parties. So when the MADC asked me to help organise theirs, I said why not. Also, I needed the cash. Seriously though, it’s gonna be awesome. All the famous people in advertising and design will be there – it’ll be just like The Gruen Transfer, except everybody will be a lot more wasted. Check out the deets below and don’t forget to RSVP. Because if you try to gatecrash this party, they’ll have the dog squad on your arse quicker than you can scull a half-drunk Breezer. Corey out.”
It was emailed to members from ‘Corey Worthington @madc’ I wonder how many spam filters it got caught in? Mine certainly didn’t like it.

For a “creative” business to lean on Corey for an invite certainly isn’t the best advertising for the MADC.
He polarizes opinion, but for me falls firmly into the chk chk Boom category of Gen Y publicity. The sooner we see less of him the better.
Luckily, I believe Mumbo is being very ironic….?

Hi Sully,
No, I stand by my liking for the campaign. I think MADC is being ironic in how they are using Corey W – that’s what I like.
Cheers,

A little bit of self-awareness goes a long way in any business – I like that the MADC is smart enough to poke fun.

Check out the MySpace site:
“Corey has 2 friends”
And one of them is ‘MySpace Australia’ !
This tells us:
a) Fame has not been kind to Corey
b) This party will suck
c) MySpace really is on the way out
d) The obligatory “all of the above”
😀

If this was 2008 then it’d be a brilliant idea for the invite. Don’t think it’s topical two years later.
Still, I dig it.

It’s great. I love the video, the “category for just being awesome” line… the myspace page…
@Lachy The answer is e) Pretty Much None of the Above… a) fame was kind to Corey; b) any party with an invite this fun has a slimmer than average chance of sucking, c) myspace isn’t ‘on the way out’, it’s out…
Sure, Corey appears to have only two friends, but heaven only knows how many friend requests he’s ignoring as he plays the PlayStation he got for being involved in the campaign…

To all the wet blankets above, this is just a bit of fun. It’s a party invite for God’s sake. Lighten up.

@Tim Longhurst,
Fair call. My first thought when I saw ‘2 Friends’ was, “damn MySpace is struggling”, and threw the rest in for a bit of a laugh.

@ Lachy,
You miss a vital point in this story – this isn’t Corey’s actual profile – this page (i’d imagine) was created to host info/videos and to generate publicity – i cant imagine they’d be actively recruiting friends to the page.
Corey’s official page is here: http://www.myspace.com/4corzza, cant see how many friends he has as his page is on ‘private’… clearly he’s learned something from his 15 minutes.

He’s pretty hot ! I’d do him

That sound like a great night out. You sound like my friend, she has no idea how to advertise either, but she sure knows how to organise parties! Last christmas she organised the best party I’ve ever been to. It was meant to be for an office christmas party; but it was so relaxed it felt like my best friends were there. She did it for free though, as a little treat for all of her work buddies.
