Crocmedia to call AFL games in regional WA

Crocmedia will call AFL games in regional Western Australia on Red FM in Perth each weekend.

The announcement:

Regional Western Australia will finally have its own AFL call this season, with the debut of Crocmedia’s WA Match of the Day.

After four years of making AFL LIVE football across regional areas on the eastern seaboard, Crocmedia will this year launch a parochial Western Australian football call.

Crocmedia last night announced at its WA Match of the Day launch in Perth that Red FM would take its Match of the Day each weekend.

The 28-game broadcast slate includes at least 14 matches involving Fremantle and West Coast, and will be heard on a mixture of Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Channel 10 commentator Lachy Reid, as well as former Eagles stars Scott Cummings and Andrew Embley headline the coverage.

Crocmedia executive director Chris Giannopoulos said WA deserved its own flavoured broadcast.

“We didn’t want to take commercial shortcuts on this and send a syndicated call into WA if we could avoid it,” Giannopoulos said.

“WA is passionate about the Eagles, Dockers and footy in general, and it deserved its own identity and its own call.

“We think we can be a great companion for those in mining areas and broader Western Australia to tap into the joy of listening to the broadcasts of AFL footy.”

Red FM hits over 109 stations and over 120 towns, with the call targeting the large fly-in-fly-out (FIFO) fraternity in regional and remote WA, which is expected to swell to 63,000 people by 2015.

Crocmedia Western Australia commercial manager Marie Angeleski said there were tremendous opportunities for clients to tell their story to broader WA.

“We’ve got some great national partners who are as parochial about Western Australia as us already on board, and we want to build long-term relationships in the state,” Angeleski said.

“This call is an exciting opportunity for WA brands with strong WA aspirations to reach a passionate audience.

The WA match of the day is the latest content offering from Crocmedia to air across regional WA.

Crocmedia already makes Off the Bench TV on Prime GWN7 each Friday night with Scott Cummings and Wayne Schwass.

Its drive show Sportsday WA, Off the Bench Radio and the Locker Room are widely listened to programs through all areas of the state across 18 regional markets, plus into Perth on SportFM.
