Danny Lakey moves from the Hit Network to Triple M

Late-night host Danny Lakey is moving from Southern Cross Austereo’s (SCA) Hit Network to its sister station Triple M where he will host a national night show.

It isn’t Lakey’s first time at the network – he has previously spent time as a boundary rider for AFL games on the network. The new show will be based around Lakey’s “unique personality and lifestyle”, according to SCA, with a ’90s and New Rock soundtrack.

Lakey has been on late nights on the Hit Network for several years. Previously, he had the mid-dawn slot on the network with Wakey Wakey It’s Danny Lakey. He got his start doing casual music shifts on the Gold Coast’s Sea FM, now Hit 90.9.

Lakey said he was delighted that his guilty pleasure of listening to Triple M could now be shared openly.

“I’m super excited to head over to Triple M. I can’t wait to get stuck into a new show and a new challenge. I’ve been secretly listening to the station on my drive to and from work each night for the past three years, so I’m glad to get rid of that guilty feeling in the pit of my stomach as well. Bring it on,” he said.

Head of the Triple M Network, Mike Fitzpatrick, said: “We’ve been persistent in trying to get Danny over to Triple M for a while now and we’ve finally worn everyone down. He’s an exceptional talent and I’m excited to have him host a new night show across the network. Danny joins an elite group of personalities to have hosted Triple M Nights over the past 40 years including Ugly Phil, John Peters, John Kennedy, Crud, Spoonman and Rob Elliott – his future hosting of a Wheel of Fortune revival is written in the stars now.”

A commencement date for Lakey’s new show on Triple M will be announced soon.
