David Holmes departs as CEO of AIMIA after 10 months

David Holmes CEO of the Australian Interactive Media Industry Association (AIMIA) David Holmes is to depart after just 10 months in the role.

In an announcement this morning, AIMIA said it would be restructuring with Holmes moving to an “advisory capacity” following his decision to join digital company Hostworks as chief development officer.

In the restructure the role of CEO is not being replaced, with day to day operations now to be shared across a trio consisting of Holmes, AIMIA President Tim O’Neill and Nick Toulson AIMIA’s commercial manager.

“David was brought on late last year to evaluate the changing needs of the industry and to work with the board to set a strategic direction for the association,” said O’Neill, in a statement.

“All existing programs have been assessed and after consultation with members and key industry stakeholders, new programs have been added and existing programs refined. The board is excited about the speed of transformation and thanks David for his work so far.”

As part of the changes all back-office systems have been replaced in an effort by the body to “allow fewer administrative staff to run the association.” A spokeswoman for AIMIA said there were no immediate redundancies as a result of the changes.

Holmes has been CEO of AIMIA since October last year after he moved across Caradvice.com.au where he was CEO. Earlier this year he was forced to concede that the annual awards event “didn’t cut it” after most of the 550 attendees struggled to see and hear who the winners were.

“The association is really humming along and we need to support these initiatives with more program managers. I am looking forward to my new role at Hostworks and will be heavily involved in completing the re-org at AIMIA over the coming months,” Holmes said.

AIMIA is the peak trade association for the Australian digital industry. “AIMIA’s membership base continues to grow, and with this restructure, we’re taking a decisive step to support the overall growth of the association and focus funds and resources where they are needed most,” said O’Neill.
