Day five of The Ashes pushes Nine’s Gem to a 17% audience share

Nine’s multi-channel 9Gem jumped to a 17% audience share on Monday night, pushing well past Ten’s 12.5% and ABC’s 11.2%, and almost toppling Seven which held 17.6%. The channel also beat Nine’s primary channel which held an audience share of 16.2%.

760,000 metro viewers tuned in for the first session of The Ashes day five, 599,000 for the lunch wrap-up and 592,000 for session two, driving Nine to an overall network audience share of 37.8%.

The Block brought in 859,000 metro viewers for its second outing, dropping from 991,000 for the premiere and landing in the fifth most-watched spot for the night. It sat above Seven’s Australia’s Got Talent which brought in 688,000 metro viewers and Ten’s Australian Survivor with 713,000.

Seven News was the most-watched show for the night overall, with 1.031m viewers tuning in, while 945,000 watched Nine News and 667,000 ABC News.

Have You Been Paying Attention? brought in 650,000 metro viewers and also landed in the top programs for the key three advertising demographics – 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54. Australian Survivor took the top spot in the two younger demographics, while The Block held top spot in the 25-54s. But overall, 9Gem held the highest audience share for metro audiences 16-39 on 23.2% and 25-54 with 19.4%.

Seven Network took the second spot in the network audience share with 24.7%, Ten held 16.8% and ABC 14.7%.
