Don Smallgoods shares stories of three Aussie ‘Dons’ following recruitment push

Don Smallgoods’ hunt for Australians named Don has come to a close, with the stories of Strathmore Bowls Club’s Don Bennett, vintage-loving Donna Mizzi, and bacon-obsessed Don Nicolson making up the second phase of the campaign.

Created by DDB Melbourne, the 30-second ads tell the stories of the three Australian ‘Dons’ and how Don Smallgoods is a part of their ‘everyday’ lives.

In a first piece of work, Don Bennett, club president at his local bowling club, prepares Game Day rolls with Don’s ‘Premium Ham.’

A second ad shows Donna Mizzi, vintage lover and entertainer, who loves to prepare Don’s Ham on share plates for her guests.

A third spot shows Don Nicolson and his dad on a camping trip, fishing and sharing their love of Don’s bacon.

According to a statement, the initial campaign, which was a call for a new face for the brand, ended up with more than 1,000 entries.

Cathy Bertoncello, marketing director at Don Smallgoods said the brand wanted to show how “real Australians are coming together to share Don”.

“To bring to life the simple connections Australia’s iconic Smallgoods brand has become such a big part of, our first wave of Dons sharing their favourite Don moments is great place to start,” she said.

DDB Melbourne’s creative director, Glen Dickson added: “I really had no idea that there were so many Dons out there. And that so many of those would put themselves forward in the hope of achieving meat-related fame and glory.”

The work will run across TV, digital and out of home.
