‘Don’t let your entry be an afterthought’: Mumbrella CommsCon Awards final deadline fast approaching

The final entry deadline for the 2025 Mumbrella CommsCon Awards is fast approaching, with entries due by midnight on Friday, January 24.

As always, the CommsCon Awards will celebrate the best of the best, giving attendees the opportunity to highlight their achievements across the various campaign, people, and business categories.

The 2024 CommsCon Awards saw alt/shift/ take home PR Agency of the Year (Large), Domain Group’s team win Best PR Team of the Year – In-house, and History Will Be Kind take home the Best PR Employer award.

History Will Be Kind also won Best Social Media or Digitally-led Campaign, and founder and chief executive of the agency, EJ Granleese, received the PR Leader of the Year accolade.

2025 will feature 24 categories across the PR and comms industry, including the coveted PR Agency of the Year (Large, Midsize, Boutique/Small) categories, PR Leader of the Year, and Best B2C Campaign, among others.

This year’s awards feature a jury of over 100 experts across agency, in-house, and corporate PR. Some have offered advice to prospective applicants.

Luke McClelland, head of communications, Australasia at Mastercard, said the focus should be not just on what you achieved, but also how, by “highlighting the relationships, capabilities, or channel expertise that set your execution apart”.

“Share the full story, from insight to impact,” he said.

Airbnb’s head of communications, Sophie Onikul, echoed his point, adding: “Make it compelling, convincing and entertaining. At its heart, comms is about storytelling so ensure you have a strong narrative with the data to back it up.”

Finally, Matthew Keenan, head of corporate affairs at ASIC, also stressed the importance of standing out.

“…don’t let your entry be an afterthought,” he explained. “Put the right amount of effort into writing your entry and telling your story, and address each section of the scoring criteria. Be succinct. Don’t forget to include relevant attachments that support your entry.”

The shortlist will be announced on February 18, before the live judging day on February 26.
