Dr Mumbo is after Splendour in the Grass passes

Australian music festival Splendour in the Grass is set to return after a two-year hiatus, and now Dr Mumbo is fulfilling the media requirements to get on the pass accreditation list.

As reported in The Guardian’s Weekly Beast media round-up, the festival is making it a little more tricky than usual to get accreditation to cover, review or photograph the event, demanding that the event be written about beforehand, before the media passes be awarded.

“While we unfortunately cannot provide event access to every media outlet that runs a Splendour story, we can assure you that outlets which have not supported the event with any pre-show editorial will not be considered for media accreditation.”

By writing this story, Dr Mumbo would argue Mumbrella is fulfilling those media accreditations. It is Dr Mumbo’s favourite pastime to spend three days in a tent without showers while teenagers grind their teeth and gyrate to house music.

As Meade wrote in her original round-up, “journalists are painfully aware of modern media management”, but Dr Mumbo does not fall into the category that would shame them out of a little harmless free promo in exchange for a double pass.

This does seem an unorthodox approach from the Splendour PR crew, but one that might just pay off. If nothing else, Dr Mumbo now knows the festival is making its return this year!
