Energy Safe Victoria and Scooter launch campaign to promote solar safety

Energy Safe Victoria has joined forces with Scooter to launch a statewide safety campaign encouraging Victorians with solar panels to have their systems regularly serviced to prevent electrical faults and house fires.

The announcement:

Energy Safe Victoria has partnered with Scooter to launch a new public safety campaign designed to protect the growing number of Victorian households embracing solar energy.

With around 30% of Victorian homes now generating their own solar power, Victoria is leading the way in clean energy adoption. But as installations age and with systems exposed to the elements, many homeowners are unaware of the increased risk of electrical faults and house fires when a solar system hasn’t been serviced. Energy Safe Victoria engaged Scooter to address this critical knowledge gap without undermining public confidence in renewable energy. In fact, over the last three years Energy Safe has received reports of 138 solar-related house fires – many of them preventable with regular maintenance.

The brief required a delicate balance: communicate the real risk of solar-related faults and fires without creating fear or discouraging solar adoption. “We wanted to raise awareness while keeping Victoria’s renewable energy momentum strong,” said Anna Hodgson, Scooter CEO.

The strategy was simple yet powerful: empower homeowners with a choice. To either call an A Grade electrician or to risk a house fire. To make the message credible, the team used a real electrician as the face of the campaign, reassuring audiences that a solar service by a licenced A Grade electrician is quick and easy.

The fully integrated, multi-channel campaign spanned television, digital, social, outdoor and print, bringing the message directly to homeowners wherever they are.
