Ex DDB’s award-winning Darren Spiller resurfaces as Host’s first chief creative officer
DDB Group Melbourne’s former chief creative officer Darren Spiller has joined Host as the agency’s first chief creative officer.
Spiller departed his role as DDB Group Melbourne’s chief creative officer after five years in November, around the same time Host’s executive creative director, Bob MacKintosh left his role after 11 years.
Throughout his career, Spiller has produced award-winning campaigns for clients such as Nike, Nestle, Tourism Victoria, NBC, H&R Block and Lion.
Anthony Freedman, group CEO and founder of Host described Spilller as the “best qualified person” that could have been brought to his agency.
“I have known Darren for a long time and quietly always hoped we might work together one day. Firstly and most importantly, he is great guy who sees the world as we do, but he’s also one of Australia’s most experienced creative leaders with an impeccable track record and the best qualified person we could have brought into Host, to help us to develop the most exciting creative content in Australia.”
Spiller said while he was set to head overseas, he felt that Host could offer the same things for him in Sydney.
“Host is a home-grown success story that’s stayed the distance. They’re riding high at the moment and it seems the perfect time to pitch in and build on recent successes.”
Host’s current clients include Air New Zealand, XXXX Gold, James Boag, Toohey’s Extra Dry, James Squire, Red Rooster, Oporto, Star Entertainment Group, Subaru and Visit California.
