ABC commissions fast turnaround social media-driven comedy #7 Days Later

An ABC experiment aimed at showcasing Australian YouTube stars has received Screen Australia funding.

Among those involved in #7 Days Later is Bondi Hipsters co-creator Nick Boshier.

The experimental comedy, which will air on ABC2, will seek to tap into social media to drive each week’s plot.

The comedy is one of nine projects given a share of $2.5 million distributed by Screen Australia.

Fiona Cameron, Screen Australia’s chief operating officer, said: “The nine projects announced today are entertaining and original ideas from creative teams with the potential to reach global audiences.”

The projects also include the new sci-fi thriller Airlock, which will be produced by Enzo Tedeschi and Julian Harvey of The Tunnel and Event Zero. The series will be directed by Marc Furmie and distributed primarily using BitTorrent, the peer-to-peer file-sharing service.
