Fairfax appoints new sales head for programmatic and data
Fairfax Media has tapped up London-based AOL executive Ross Blackam for a new role as national sales director looking after performance, data and programmatic within the digital ad development team.
The move comes as the publisher, which has been a leader in establishing the APEX Mobile Exchange, and has its own programmatic offering called DRX led by another former AOL executive Lee Callagher, looks to increase revenues from its digital platforms as print continues to erode.
It also signals a return to Australia for Blackam, who has previous media experience with MCN in Melbourne as a digital sales manager, and has spent the last five years in London working for AOL, rising to group head of UK sales for its platform Ad.com.
He will report into digital ad development director Tereza Alexandratos, who said in a statement: “Ross is the perfect fit for this integral role in our growing digital ad development team, as he shares our passion for creating and delivering innovative digital ad insights, products and solutions to advertisers.”
Blackam said: “I’m thrilled to be leading the data and performance ad sales team at Fairfax Media. DRX and D&A are strong products and Fairfax Media’s programmatic offering is growing rapidly. I look forward to demonstrating the strengths of these exciting areas to the market and drawing on my previous knowledge and experience from the UK.”
The appointment is effective immediately.
Seems a solid enough appointment, good luck to him. However, does it identify a lack of depth from within Fairfax’s existing or up and coming sales leadership?
