Binge confirms cancellation of FBoy Island Australia

The Australian version of FBoy Island, starring Abbie Chatfield, won’t be returning to screens, with streamer Binge confirming to Mumbrella it won’t be commissioning a third season.

The news comes despite the show’s official Instagram page attempting to recruit contestants late last year.

“Ladies, FBoys and Nice Guys – DM us your contact details if you’d like to find love (or money) on the Island,” the post from October 2024 said. “If you know someone else who would be a great fit, tag them in the comments. We’re crossing our FBoy fingers for a Season 3.”

A separate post later in the month said: “FBoy, F Bye, For Now. Let’s manifest another epic season next year.”

A Foxtel Group spokesperson, however, told Mumbrella that FBoy Island Australia would not be renewed for Season 3.

“Over two wild and entertaining seasons, FBoy Island flipped traditional dating formats on its head, and amongst all of the jokes, laughter and questionable behaviour the show challenged gender dynamics and encouraged men to be accountable for their bad behaviour,” the spokesperson said.

“We thank our production partners at Warner Bros, our host Abbie Chatfield, and our contestants – FBoys and all – for an incredible two seasons on Binge.”

FBoy Island was a Binge Original production, based on an existing US format. Its first season hit the Foxtel-owned streamer in May 2023, with a second season following in August 2024.

The show was billed as a quest to help three women find love, with the ‘twist’ of half the men being “nice guys” and the remainder being self-proclaimed “FBoys” who were only after a cash prize.

It was produced by Warner Bros. International Television Production Australia (WBITVP). Former host Chatfield was previously full of praise for the production and crew.

“The crew worked so hard on this. And there’s such long hours from everyone – from runners to camera people, to soundos, to the EPs and the producers and the story producers and the post producers – like everyone on that set,” she said in a past interview.

“I’ve worked with a lot of them before, hair and makeup, styling, I’ve worked with a lot of them before and that crew, they’re just some of the best [in the country]. So amazing. So fun. We just had so much fun, despite the fact we were all [in] 37 fucking degrees, dying trying to make a reality show happen in three weeks.

“So I can’t overstate how important the crew are and I’m pretty changeable. But the crew as a whole [are amazing]. I just love them all so much. It was great.”

Chatfield was also previously a panellist on The Masked Singer Australia on 10, which is not returning to the network. She continues to host the successful It’s A Lot podcast with SCA’s Listnr.

Binge’s owner Foxtel was previously a joint venture between News Corp and Telstra. Earlier this year Foxtel, including Binge, was sold to UK-based Dazn in a $3.4 billion deal.
